Things I wish today November 9, 2008

In late response to Pink JellyBaby (whose blog I’ve just come across). There are the things I wish today:

I wish Prince Charming didn’t work every Sunday, I wish that we could have more than one day together each week, more time to fit everything/everyone in so that we’d still have more time to spend quality time with each other

In the same vein, I wish Prince Charming didn’t have to work New Year’s Day, that way we could go away to a cottage with my friends for a couple of days

I wish I lived in my own house with Prince Charming so that I wouldn’t have to tidy up after my housemates

I wish my housemate hadn’t eaten a whole tub of my Ben & Jerry’s and not replaced it. You wouldn’t believe how much I’m craving some Bohemian Raspberry now that I can’t have it

I wish I liked Samantha’s new boyfriend. He just really winds me up. And I don’t like the person she is around him

I wish my mum, brother and sister could be happy. I get so worried about them. And can’t do anything to help them. This I wish more than anything

I wish Prince Charming hadn’t asked to put a limit of Christmas presents this year. Just once I wanted him to spare no expense and surprise me with the perfect present

I wish I was still here:

New York last year for Thanksgiving

New York last year for Thanksgiving

Bali this summer

Bali this summer

Kinsale, Ireland last month

Kinsale, Ireland last month

Any chance that any of this will come true?!

I haven’t had enough time this week to even see Prince Charming and my friends, let along blog. Such a manic week at work. I was working on the launch of a book, trying to keep one of my normal clients chugging along and on top of that I was pulled on to another client to help with a sell in to journalists and then recruit case studies for another part of the campaign. Basically, I spent the whole week on the phone and am totally exhausted.

I turned down the job that I was headhunted for a couple of weeks ago. It didn’t feel right for me, I didn’t think it was the right direction for my career. I decided after the first interview that it wasn’t for me but was convinced to go back for a second interview by my current boss (long story) but still didn’t like it. I’ve not regretted the decision since. Regretting the money slightly but I’m going to have a word with work and ask for a pay rise…we’ll see how well that goes down.

I really do need more money though because I’ve spent a fortune on clothes recently (all very necessary for my winter wardrobe), plus I’ve got a skiing holiday to pay for this month and ski gear to buy for January. Not even thinking about what I’ve got to spend for Christmas! Eek.

Planning a really lazy  day today. Prince Charming is at work (as usual on a Sunday – makes me sad) and wants to go to see Quantum of Solace later, not sure whether I really want to though, then I’ll miss the Strictly Come Dancing results (also makes me sad).

They need our help November 2, 2008

So yesterday we went to Thorpe Park (a theme park about an hour away). We booked tickets weeks ago for Fright Night, the rides were open until 10pm and they had loads of horror mazes etc planned. Our plans were scuppered though by the rain. It rained so much yesterday, continuously with no let up. Basically we got soaked through, I was so wet I lost all feeling in my hands and feet and I wasn’t a happy bunny.

We didn’t stay long at all, couldn’t get home quickly enough. Within an hour and a half of leaving Prince Charming and I were under a blanket on the sofa with two hot water bottles and heated slippers. So warm!

Anyway, I was still feeling pretty sorry for myself this morning until I saw an email from Oxfam asking for dontations for refugees in the DRC:

Fierce fighting during the last few days has forced thousands of people to flee from their homes in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Many are finding their way into makeshift camps in the east of the country. Arriving daily, people are now desperately looking for security, food and clean drinking water.

Oxfam is already working in four camps in the region but the size of the camps is increasing dramatically as tens of thousands more people flee towards Goma. This sudden influx means we now desperately need to ramp-up our relief efforts.

In the camps, we have set up water tanks and tap stands to give people clean water. We are also providing sanitation facilities and are teaching camp leaders basic health skills to protect families from the spread of life threatening disease.

The refugees in DRC don’t have the opportunity to head home and feel ok again in an hour and a half. They’re going through things we can’t even imagine. Really puts everything in perspective for me. So anyway, I’ve donated and I urge you to as well. The link is here.

Tell everyone about it as well. If these atrocities were happening in a European country it’d be all over the news. Unfortunately DRC is being out-newsed by the US elections at the moment. It’s just not as exciting to talk about human rights violations is it?

Phew, thank goodness Monday is over. Don’t have to do that for another week!

Horrid day today, had to lie to work claiming I have a dr’s appointment on Wednesday morning when in fact I’m going for the interview. My boss’ wife works at the rival agency – what are the chances I’ll run into her at the interview?!

Spent the whole evening pulling together my coverage portfolio for the interview. Wish I could have spent it with Prince Charming though. He’s just sat forlornly at the end of the sofa waiting for some attention.

It better be worth it. If anyone’s reading this, I need good vibes sent to me between 9 and 10 am GMT on Wednesday. Please?!

The extra hour October 26, 2008

The clocks went back this morning, we got an extra hour in bed which explains why I’m so wide awake at 8.20 on a Sunday.

BT are marking the end of British Summer Time with a sponsorship of the speaking clock. Disney are sponsoring it for 3 months and are using the voice of Tinker Bell to do it! Such a great PR idea, I’ve had two people mention it to me already! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7689425.stm

Got such a lot to do today. A long with the normal Sunday washing loads, I’ve got to sort out my portfolio of work. I got an interview for that rival agency that head hunted me. It’s at 9.00 on Wednesday (which means I’m going to have to lie to work. Feeling sick about it!).

Then I’ve got my friends coming over for Ice Cream Sundae. Haven’t seen them for ages so really looking forward to it. Best way I can think of to spend the extra hour!

My daddy October 18, 2008

My dad died in March 2006, I miss him every single day but sometimes more so than ever. Today is one of those days.

He died so unexpectedly, of a heart attack whilst he was at a spinning class. I can’t really describe it all today because it will get me too upset.

I just miss him so much. It’s not fair. He’ll never get to give me away at my wedding, he never got to see how well I’m doing in my career, I never even got to introduce him to my Prince Charming. It makes me so sad.

He was a great man with a great sense of humour. See below, at a fancy dress party with my mum!

I really try to live by the principle that everything happens for a reason but I really struggle to find the reasoning behind this one. I’d give anything to have him back.

Champagne Haze October 18, 2008

Such a gorgeous day today. I’ve even got washing drying on the line, in mid-October. Whoever says global warming doesn’t affect us is crazy!

I was drining champagne last night. Quite a lot of champagne. Started after work when we were celebrating a big win, our chairman put his card behind the bar and then we carried on after he left.  Then I had to leave to go and meet Prince Charming, his friend and the friend’s girlfriend. Seeing as I’d started on the champers I thought I’d carry on. Maybe those last two were a mistake. Suffering a bit today though.

I don’t mind too much though because it’s sunny and because Carrie and Samantha aren’t in tonight so I have the house to myself with Prince Charming and we get to spend the whole day together tomorrow!!

So, I sent my CV over to the rival company who’d head hunted me. Haven’t heard anything yet and I’m getting more and more nervous by the day. Now that I’m in the mind set of leaving my job I’ve also started looking for others. I’m not desperate to leave but I’m going to start putting the feelers out there to see what’s around. Anyone got any jobs going as an Account Mananger / Press Officer doing charity work?!

Ben & Jerry’s October 12, 2008

I love Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, in particular Cherry Garcia frozen yoghurt, but I’m not fussy. I’ve just seen Steven Fry visit the B&J factory in the US and I’m very very jealous. He made his own flavour. His own unique flavour!

Now I’m craving ice cream but Prince Charming won’t go to the kitchen to get me any. He’s stroking the dog instead. Surely he should be paying me, his full-of-cold girlfriend, attention instead?!

Not looking forward to work this week. Hate working when I’m ill. And it’s going to be a busy one. Plus I got head hunted for a really good job last week, think I’m going to go for it. But that means being underhanded about going for an interview. I hate lying to people. What if I get found out? Any tips for getting away with it?!

People who’ve got on the wrong side of me today October 11, 2008

Filed under: Random Sunday Blogging — goingasleep @ 5:55 pm
  • Whoever passed on these lovely germs. Thanks. If you’re ill, stay at home, don’t breathe cold germs on me
  • Prince Charming’s mate who still hasn’t paid me the deposit for our ski holiday. Stingey sod. Give me the money and if you can’t, at least be embarrassed about it
  • Evil credit card company. Don’t call me and demand money when I’ve called you three times to tell you my credit card details were stolen, otherwise there wouldn’t be any money to pay off. Take a  note of it when I call you and do something about it
  • Samantha the dirty housemate. Don’t use the last of the toilet roll and not replace it. It’s not hard to have a nice house to live in but you have to contribute too
  • Apple worker who can’t do their job well enough. I like it when my album covers display, that’s why I bought an iPod touch. I didn’t spend a fortune on it so that I could spend my day figuring out how to fix your bug
  • Little girl outside the corner shop. Brat. Don’t throw your rubbish on the floor. And have the respect to pick it up when I make a comment about it.

Don’t mess with me or you’ll be on my list too.

This blogging is cathartic isn’t it?! Right, I’m off to spend the evening being pampered by Prince Charming.

Ladybirds October 11, 2008

Sitting at home on the sofa all day today. I’d planned to anyway, but have come down with a stinking cold and tonsillitis again (3rd time in 6 months) so I’m currently feeling sorry for myself, curled up on the sofa watching Miami Ink.

One of my housemate, Carrie, was in the kitchen when she called me in to see the hundreds of ladybirds that had decided to move in through our back door. There were a few dozen black ones – what’s that about?! Anyway, we managed to shut most of them out and killed the rest of them. Not good for my karma I know but they were freaking me out.

Went out last night for Carrie’s birthday. Me and The Girls (Carrie, Samantha and Miranda*) went for dinner then on for drinks where we’d got everyone else to meet us as a suprise. Apparently we’re all pretty bad liars though because she guessed before we got there. Was a really fun night.

Not sure about Samantha’s new boyfriend though, firstly he’s ginger, secondly he’s a techy geek and thirdly he’s just annoying (he blocked our internet during the week just for a laugh. Not funny). Plus he seems to be making her even more untidy than usual. I finally gave in today and cleaned up the plates, glasses and melted ice cream that had been left to dry out on our coffee table which she’d left there since Wednesday night. Minging.

I just don’t get how people can make a mess like that and leave it there for others to clean up. Hurumph

*Carrie = trendy, cool job, been with her boyfriend for 5 years and always has gorgeous shoes. Went to school with her, lived with her at uni and have now been living with her for 2 years back in suburbia.
Samantha = single until very recently, not as promiscuous as the name suggests but no nun. Can be loud when drunk or showing off but grumpy as hell when in a mood. Was Ex-Boyfriend’s best friend, have been living with her for 2 years also
Miranda = trainee lawyer, settled down with boyfriend from school not really fashionable but heart of gold

Yes that does make me Charlotte in character, Tink by name though.
