Beef November 24, 2008

Do you ever fancy anyone for the weirdest reasons?! Like sometimes I fancy a manager at work because he’s so cute about his wife. You can tell he just loves her so much. But that’s the only reason I fancy him, looks / attitude / everything-else-wise he’s just so far from my type but I love to hear him talk about his wife.

Until today when I belatedly read the news about Gordon Ramsay I had a (not-so) mini crush on him – is this weird? I know he’s pretty ugly but he loves seemed to love his wife so much. And he always looks like such a great dad to his kids.

But now I have beef with him. How could he cheat? He had everything worked out perfectly and he promoted himself as a family man, he always featured his children in his series’ and he always talked about his family when he was interviewed. I can’t believe that he’s ruined that all for some floozy. Yes I went there, she’s a floozy.

Ok beef over.

(Much like my crush on Gordon).

It’s snoooooowing!

It’s actually snowing quite a lot. Wasn’t too happy about this when Prince Charming dropped me home at 7.30 this morning on the way to work but now that I’m happily tucked up in the warm, I’m very excited that it’s snowing outside!

What I’d really love is if the snow messed up the trains tomorrow morning (and it seems that they use any excuse – rain?!) and I could work from home in my pyjamas!

Continuing on the winter theme. Prince Charming and I went to the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park yesterday. It was a lot of fun, mulled wine, German market and lots of Christmas songs. I would highly recommend it, though it only takes an hour at the most to wander round.

It’s all just too exciting, 32 days until Christmas!

Must start thinking about Christmas presents. For others that is, I already know what I’m asking for – jewellery:

I want that one

I want that one

And that one

And that one

Musings November 17, 2008

Things I’m musing over today:

  • Is stress from my work making me ill or do I just have a bug?
  • How do I always manage to forget my coat when it’s a really cold day?
  • Am I going to get the pay rise I’ve asked for or will my boss chicken out?
  • Will I ever be able to cook as well as my mum?
  • Is my dad haunting Prince Charming’s car? It’s falling apart and used to be my dad’s. Is it because my dad doesn’t approve of Prince Charming?
  • Which hottie in Spooks do I fancy more?

Stay tuned to see whether I can find any answers!

Two posts in one day?! November 16, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — goingasleep @ 12:19 pm

I know, I know, two posts in one day is just crazy but I had to get this out.

Watching the glorious Hollyoaks this morning and Carmel (the ditzy blond) was giving Lauren (big hair, black clothes) advice on sex. Best quote ev-er:

“Lauren, it’s not something you do when you’re bored like Jenga.”

Riiiiight.

Great stuff

So, I love love love Christmas. What I love most about it is the lead up to it, December is easily one of my best months. Nothing can beat walking down the road with Christmas decorations everywhere and hearing Christmas songs coming out of the shops.

I’m desperate to decorate the house, clearly I’m not mad enough to do it yet, I will wait until December. I’ll just wait impatiently.

The girls and I have agreed to get a fake tree this year. Normally only real trees will do but last year our real one made such a mess we’re sticking with a fakey. Saw this the other day…and I really can’t make my mind up about it. Is it so cool it’s right or is it just so wrong?

What Chrismas looks like in Oz??

What Chrismas looks like in Oz??

Any thoughts?

Things I wish today November 9, 2008

In late response to Pink JellyBaby (whose blog I’ve just come across). There are the things I wish today:

I wish Prince Charming didn’t work every Sunday, I wish that we could have more than one day together each week, more time to fit everything/everyone in so that we’d still have more time to spend quality time with each other

In the same vein, I wish Prince Charming didn’t have to work New Year’s Day, that way we could go away to a cottage with my friends for a couple of days

I wish I lived in my own house with Prince Charming so that I wouldn’t have to tidy up after my housemates

I wish my housemate hadn’t eaten a whole tub of my Ben & Jerry’s and not replaced it. You wouldn’t believe how much I’m craving some Bohemian Raspberry now that I can’t have it

I wish I liked Samantha’s new boyfriend. He just really winds me up. And I don’t like the person she is around him

I wish my mum, brother and sister could be happy. I get so worried about them. And can’t do anything to help them. This I wish more than anything

I wish Prince Charming hadn’t asked to put a limit of Christmas presents this year. Just once I wanted him to spare no expense and surprise me with the perfect present

I wish I was still here:

New York last year for Thanksgiving

New York last year for Thanksgiving

Bali this summer

Bali this summer

Kinsale, Ireland last month

Kinsale, Ireland last month

Any chance that any of this will come true?!

I haven’t had enough time this week to even see Prince Charming and my friends, let along blog. Such a manic week at work. I was working on the launch of a book, trying to keep one of my normal clients chugging along and on top of that I was pulled on to another client to help with a sell in to journalists and then recruit case studies for another part of the campaign. Basically, I spent the whole week on the phone and am totally exhausted.

I turned down the job that I was headhunted for a couple of weeks ago. It didn’t feel right for me, I didn’t think it was the right direction for my career. I decided after the first interview that it wasn’t for me but was convinced to go back for a second interview by my current boss (long story) but still didn’t like it. I’ve not regretted the decision since. Regretting the money slightly but I’m going to have a word with work and ask for a pay rise…we’ll see how well that goes down.

I really do need more money though because I’ve spent a fortune on clothes recently (all very necessary for my winter wardrobe), plus I’ve got a skiing holiday to pay for this month and ski gear to buy for January. Not even thinking about what I’ve got to spend for Christmas! Eek.

Planning a really lazy  day today. Prince Charming is at work (as usual on a Sunday – makes me sad) and wants to go to see Quantum of Solace later, not sure whether I really want to though, then I’ll miss the Strictly Come Dancing results (also makes me sad).

They need our help November 2, 2008

So yesterday we went to Thorpe Park (a theme park about an hour away). We booked tickets weeks ago for Fright Night, the rides were open until 10pm and they had loads of horror mazes etc planned. Our plans were scuppered though by the rain. It rained so much yesterday, continuously with no let up. Basically we got soaked through, I was so wet I lost all feeling in my hands and feet and I wasn’t a happy bunny.

We didn’t stay long at all, couldn’t get home quickly enough. Within an hour and a half of leaving Prince Charming and I were under a blanket on the sofa with two hot water bottles and heated slippers. So warm!

Anyway, I was still feeling pretty sorry for myself this morning until I saw an email from Oxfam asking for dontations for refugees in the DRC:

Fierce fighting during the last few days has forced thousands of people to flee from their homes in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Many are finding their way into makeshift camps in the east of the country. Arriving daily, people are now desperately looking for security, food and clean drinking water.

Oxfam is already working in four camps in the region but the size of the camps is increasing dramatically as tens of thousands more people flee towards Goma. This sudden influx means we now desperately need to ramp-up our relief efforts.

In the camps, we have set up water tanks and tap stands to give people clean water. We are also providing sanitation facilities and are teaching camp leaders basic health skills to protect families from the spread of life threatening disease.

The refugees in DRC don’t have the opportunity to head home and feel ok again in an hour and a half. They’re going through things we can’t even imagine. Really puts everything in perspective for me. So anyway, I’ve donated and I urge you to as well. The link is here.

Tell everyone about it as well. If these atrocities were happening in a European country it’d be all over the news. Unfortunately DRC is being out-newsed by the US elections at the moment. It’s just not as exciting to talk about human rights violations is it?
